Origin and history

The Château de La Chaussée-Tirancourt is a historical monument located in the department of the Somme, in the Hauts-de-France region. This site, whose facades, roofs, chapel and several outbuildings are protected, is part of an estate comprising a courtyard, a landscaped park and agricultural buildings. The ensemble, partially listed as the Historical Monuments since 2019, reflects architecture and layout typical of local seigneurial or bourgeois properties.

In the Somme, as in other rural areas of northern France, castles and large houses often played a central role in social and economic organization. They served as residences for wealthy families, while sheltering agricultural or craft activities in their outbuildings. The landscaped park and the related buildings of the Château de La Chaussée-Tirancourt, such as the press or the guardian's house, illustrate this duality between noble habitat and exploitation of the surrounding lands.
