Origin and history
The castle of Rives-d'Autise, located in the commune of Oulmes (Vendée, Pays de la Loire), is a monument whose origins date back to the 17th century for its communes, while its main house body dates from the 3rd quarter of the 18th century. The latter is distinguished by an interior decoration of rock style, characteristic of the decorative art of the eighteenth century. The whole, including facades, roofs, fireplaces of living rooms, fenced wall and commons, was inscribed in the Historical Monuments by order of 13 June 1994, emphasizing its heritage value.
The ancient commons bear witness to 17th century utilitarian architecture, while the house body reflects the evolution of aristocratic tastes in the following century, with a typical rock ornaments of the Louis XV era. The location of the castle, in the vendean bocage, is part of a territory marked by a rural and seigneurial history, where the castles played a central role in the social and economic organization of the countryside.
The official address of the monument, according to the Mérimée base, is 14 Rue de Bourgneuf in Oulmes (85420), in the Vendée department ( Pays de la Loire region). Although the practical information on current visits or uses (rentals, guest rooms) is not specified in the sources, its status as Historic Monument protects key elements such as facades, roofs, or fireplaces in the living rooms, guaranteeing the preservation of this architectural heritage.
