Origin and history

Montjustin Castle, located in the commune of Montjustin-et-Velotte in Haute-Saône, is a monument built between the last quarter of the 16th century and the first quarter of the 17th century. This building, composed of a body of houses and communes in return, reflects the architectural characteristics of the aristocratic residences of the late Renaissance. Its protected elements, including the court floor and a terrace to the south, were inscribed in the Historic Monuments by order of 3 January 1992, thus highlighting its heritage value.

At that time, Burgundy-Franche-Comté was a region marked by a hierarchical social organization, where castles served as both seigneurial residences and symbols of power. Local activities were mainly based on agriculture, livestock and limited trade, in a post-Renaissance context still influenced by religious tensions and political transformation. Monuments such as Montjustin's then embodied the prestige of noble families while playing a role in the administration of surrounding lands.

Available sources, including Monumentum and Merimée data, specify that the castle is located at 122 Rue du Château, with an official address confirmed by Insee code 70364. Although practical information on the visits or services offered is not explicitly detailed, its registration as Historic Monuments guarantees official recognition of its cultural and architectural importance.
