Theatre in the former chapel of the convent (except gallery located outside the building) as well as the contiguous room known as the Club (cad. AM 299): classification by decree of 12 July 1989
Origin and history
The Convent of the Congregation-Our Lady of Mirecourt, located in the city of Mirecourt (Departement des Vosges, Grand Est region), is a religious building built in the 19th century. This monument, now classified, bears witness to the architecture and spiritual life of this period. Its former chapel has been transformed into a theatre, a rare example of heritage conversion.
The convent has been partially protected since 1989, including its theatre in the chapel and an adjacent room called the Club. These spaces, listed under the Historical Monuments by decree of 12 July 1989, illustrate the adaptation of religious buildings to cultural or social uses. The precise location of the convent, 7 Place du Général de Gaulle, is documented, although geographical accuracy is considered satisfactory a priori (note 6/10).
Owned by the municipality of Mirecourt, the convent is part of a local heritage marked by the heritage of Lorraine and the Great East. Its history reflects urban and cultural developments in the region, where religious buildings have often played a central role in community life. The foundation of Heritage, which refers to the site, emphasizes its importance for collective memory and its tourist or event potential (location of rooms, visits).
