15th century entrance door: inscription by decree of 24 October 1929

Origin and history

The Cordeliers de Châteaudun convent, located in the commune of Eure-et-Loir (28), is a religious building dating back to the 15th century. Today, there is only a building body and an iconic entrance door, marked by a cochère door in the middle of the hangar and a pedestrian door with arches in a braid, characteristic of late Gothic architecture. These elements reflect the historic significance of the site, although the majority of structures have disappeared over the centuries.

The 15th century entrance door, the only protected vestige, was inscribed in the Historical Monuments by order of 24 October 1929. This ranking underscores its heritage value, particularly for its architectural style and its role in local history. The convent, like many religious establishments of the time, probably played a central role in the spiritual and social life of Châteaudun, although the available sources do not specify its exact use or its founders.

Current data place the site at the approximate address of the 12 Impasse des Cordeliers in the city centre. The location, considered "a priori satisfactory" (note 7/10), makes it possible to envisage a visit to the remains still visible. However, no information is provided on the accessibility of the site, its openness to the public, or any associated services such as guest rooms or room rentals.
