Origin and history
The "Beurre & œufs" cream shop, located at 124 rue Saint-Charles in the 15th arrondissement of Paris, was built around 1930 by two artisans: Guittard, marbrier, and Rama, decorator. The store features a black and grey-white marble front, as well as a refined interior, including a marble counter and shelves, topped by a glass-painted ceiling depicting butterflies and swallows. This decor, typical of the art crafts of the 1930s, reflects the attention paid to the aesthetics of the Parisian shops of the time.
The front and interior decoration of the cream shop was protected by a registration order for the Historic Monuments on May 23, 1984, recognizing their heritage value. The trade finally closed in 1997, marking the end of an era for this emblematic place of the neighborhood. Today, it reflects the Parisian commercial architecture of the 20th century, combining functionality and elegance.
The exact address, 124 rue Saint-Charles, is listed in the Mérimée base under the code Insee 75115, confirming its anchoring in the 15th arrondissement of Paris. The corresponding GPS location is considered to be of poor accuracy (level 5/10), but sufficient to situate the monument in its urban environment. The photographs available, such as Oderik's Creative Commons license, make it possible to appreciate the architectural details still visible today.
