Origin and history

Laragne Castle, located in Laragne-Montéglin in the Hautes-Alpes, is a historic monument whose construction began around 1609. This construction site, which spans about thirty years, was entrusted to architect Guillaume Le Moyne, also involved in the restoration of Vizille Castle. This architectural project marks the first half of the 17th century, a period of transition between Renaissance and classicism.

The castle was partially protected by an order of 2 August 1996, covering in particular the former castle and its portal. Today, it is both communal and private property, illustrating its local heritage importance. Its location, at 8-10 rue du Château, makes it a central point in the urban fabric of Laragne-Montéglin.

Available sources, such as Monumentum, highlight its role in regional architectural history. Although the details of its initial use remain partial, its inscription as a Historical Monument bears witness to its cultural value and its anchoring in the Provencal-Alpine heritage.
