Origin and history
The Bourdieu estate, also known as the Lafitte house, is a modest 18th century residence located in Mérignac, in the Graves de Bordeaux. This type of housing, called a cartreuse, is characterized by a rectangular plan elongated on the ground floor, here doubled in depth. It illustrates the rural wine architecture of the region, adapted to small estates exploiting the vine.
Dependencies still present suggest that the estate was dedicated to wine production, a major economic activity of the Graves at that time. The property, fully protected (enclosed fence and portal), was listed in the Historic Monuments by order of 6 March 2009. Its name Lafitte comes from the owners certified in the mid-18th century, although their personal history is not detailed in the sources.
The location of the estate, at the approximate address 2 Place du 11 novembre in Mérignac, reflects its anchoring in the Bordeaux peri-urban landscape. Map accuracy is considered fair (note 5/10), indicating a geographical identification to be refined. The site does not appear to be systematically open to the public, but its status as a Historic Monument makes it a preserved witness to local wine history.
