Origin and history

The Château de Mondétour is an 18th-century residence located in the communes of Morgny-la-Pommeraye and Blainville-Crevon, Seine-Maritime (Normandie). Built in bricks in a classic style, it is distinguished by its imposing outbuildings and the almost total absence of stone. The estate, a private property not accessible to the public, has been partially listed as historical monuments since 1975, with extensive protections in 2001 and 2002 covering interiors, park, landscape and related buildings.

In 1718, Pierre Duval, then director of the Mint of Rouen, acquired the fief and razed the former mansion to erect the present castle around 1725. The estate changed hands in 1771, when the Baron du Saussay bought and added a dovecote in 1779. At the end of the 18th century, Claude Belhomme de Franqueville, kept the roles of the offices of France, became owner of it for 631,000 Livres. The castle then passed through successive alliances to the families of Acher de Montgascon, then to Charles de Marbot (1820–82), son of General Marcellin Marbot, aide de camp of Marshal Lannes.

The protections under the title of historical monuments concern facades, roofs, wrought iron staircase, seven rooms on the ground floor with their decoration, as well as orangery and adjacent buildings. The estate also includes a park with views to the Vimont chapel in the north and the Morgny-la-Pommeraye church in the southwest. In 1987, it belonged to Mme de Robillard de Beaurepaire and Mme Ghislain Bouffet, marking the continuity of her status as a private property.

Architecturally, the castle illustrates 18th century classicism, with a brick structure and preserved decorative elements. The successive inscriptions underline its heritage importance, also covering the gates, pillars, walls, basins and the old farm of the castle. The chapel and dovecote, added in the 18th century, complete this historical ensemble.

The sources also mention partial origin in the seventeenth century (according to Monumentum), although the major construction dates from the eighteenth century. The domain remains a testimony of local history, linked to administrative and military figures, while maintaining its private character and remarkable landscape.
