Origin and history

The dungeon of Lastic is a 16th century castle built in the municipality of Saou, in the Drôme department. This monument, typical of Renaissance defensive architecture, is distinguished by its integration into a preserved natural setting. Although his original function was military, he also illustrated the evolution of the seigneurial residences of that time in the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region.

Ranked as historic monuments since October 21, 1926, the Lastic dungeon was preserved for its heritage interest. Today, it houses a cottage, offering visitors an immersion in a site combining history and nature. Its inscription reflects the desire to protect the emblematic buildings of the Drôme, while giving them a second tourist life.

The castle is part of a wider network of historical monuments in the region, as evidenced by the links with the lists of castles and protected buildings of the Drôme. Its mention in architectural bases such as Mérimée reinforces its importance in local and national heritage.
