Origin and history

The church of Notre-Dame de Saint-Yvi, located in the municipality of the same name in Brittany, preserves the remains of the 15th century, although its structure was largely redesigned in the following century. The 16th century enlargements include the reconstruction of the southern porch and the addition of a transept, reflecting the evolution of the liturgical and demographic needs of the period. The bell tower, for its part, was completely rebuilt in the early eighteenth century, marking a later phase of architectural transformations.

Adjacent ossuary is distinguished by its intersecting arcades, forming secondary third-point openings adorned with redents, a decorative pattern typical of the late Gothic period. Nearby, a calvary rests on an octagonal base lined with a leafy bandeau, surmounted by a twisted stem and four lamp asses, illustrating Breton religious art of the modern era. These elements, combined with the church itself, were protected by a registration order under the Historic Monuments on May 11, 1932.

The location of the building, although documented (6 Avenue Jean Jaurès, Saint-Yvi), suffers from a geographical accuracy deemed poor (note of 5/10), according to the available data. Owned by the commune, the church today embodies a religious and artistic heritage, a witness to the constructive and cultural dynamics of Brittany between the Middle Ages and the modern era.
