Origin and history

The House Sorribès, also called a castle, is a house built in the late eighteenth century. Located in the village of Belleherbe, in the Doubs department, it is representative of the traditional local architecture. A plaque on the building bears the date of 1790, confirming its construction period. This monument illustrates the rural habitat style of this time in Franche-Comté.

Sorribès House was listed as a historical monument by order of 30 July 1997. This protection applies specifically to the building housing body, identified under the cadastral reference AC 15. The monument is located at 10 Grande Rue, in the centre of the village of Belleherbe, and its state of conservation seems satisfactory according to available sources.

At the end of the 18th century, Franche-Comté was a region marked by a rural and artisanal economy. The houses of this period often reflected the social status of their owners, with square plans and local materials. The Sorribès House, with its inscription in historical monuments, bears witness to the heritage importance attached to these traditional buildings, thus preserving a part of the regional architectural history.
