Origin and history

The hotel du Tillet is a Parisian mansion located at 52 rue Saint-André-des-Arts in the 6th arrondissement. Built in 1740 under the reign of Louis XV, it illustrates the refined architecture of the period, with elements such as arcades, pilasters and delicate ironwork. Its Louis XV style, marked by discreet decors and fertility symbols, makes it a remarkable example of the aristocratic art of living of the eighteenth century.

The hotel originally belonged to Charles Jean Baptiste du Tillet, Marquis de la Bussière. In the 19th century he was associated with the mathematician Joseph Bertrand, born there in 1822. Falling in ruins around 1900, he was saved by Ganay's family, which restored him. The façade still bears the traces of the Revolution, with the word Saint scratched on the name of the street.

Ranked a historic monument in 1928, the hotel is distinguished by its protected elements: the street and courtyard facades, the wrought iron staircase ramp, and a mascaron representing Bacchus. These details, like ram heads and horns of abundance, evoke glory and prosperity, themes dear to the elite of the Enlightenment.

The building also houses a historical vestige: the genealogist Cherin, the king's adviser, reportedly installed his offices there. Today, it reflects both the opulence of the Ancien Régime and the revolutionary upheavals, while remaining an architectural gem of the Paris Marais.
