Origin and history

The oppidum du Casterat is an archaeological site located in the commune of Ibos, in the department of Hautes-Pyrénées (65), in the Occitan region. This monument, dated from the Protohistory, illustrates the importance of oppidas as places of refuge and territorial control during this period. Its strategic location suggests a defensive and economic role for local populations.

The oppidum was listed as a Historical Monument by order of 26 December 1984, thus protecting the remains on the cadastral plots AH 36, 45 and 58.
