Origin and history
The castle of Font-Baudry, located in Preuilly-sur-Claise (Indre-et-Loire), finds its origins in a Gallo-Roman occupation. In the 13th century it was known as Fons Balderici and was a fief dependent on the Barony of Preuilly. This historic site then belonged to the Ancelon family, who later handed it over to Louis Nicolas Le Tonnelier de Breteuil.
The current neo-classical building was entirely rebuilt in 1830, marking an architectural break with its medieval past. It presents itself as a rectangular pavilion, supplemented by a small building breaking the symmetry of the rear façade. On May 3, 1963, it was listed as a historical monument, reflecting the evolution of architectural tastes in the 19th century.
The castle also embodies local history, linked to the Touraine and its aristocratic heritage. Its inscription today protects its facades and roofs, preserving a Gallo-Roman, medieval and modern heritage. No information is available on its current use (visits, rentals, etc.).
