Origin and history
The castle of Frescati, located in Mas-Grenier in the Tarn-et-Garonne, is a house composed of an 18th century central body, extended by two perpendicular wings built in the early 19th century. This building, classified as Historic Monument, is distinguished by its facades initially decorated with light relief brick panels, now covered with cement. Inside, a staircase with a wrought iron ramp dating back to the 18th century and a living room decorated with antiquisant motifs attest to the refinement of the era.
An orangery, once located in the extension of the wings, has now disappeared. At the southeast corner of the terrace, a square pavilion has notable architectural features: brick-angle chains, rectangular windows and a triglyphic façade. This pavilion houses a vaulted brick-walled hall, an element protected by a registration order in 1988, alongside the facades and roofs of the pavilion.
The castle illustrates the architectural evolution between the 18th and 19th centuries, combining classical elements with more recent additions. Although some parts have been modified or destroyed, such as orangery, the preserved elements offer an overview of the rural aristocratic heritage of Occitanie. The accuracy of its location is considered satisfactory, with an address confirmed at 6 Rue du Douât in Mas-Grenier.
