Sixteenth century parts comprising the north facade of the house body, the stair tower, the two chimneys: inscription by order of 8 February 1928

Origin and history

The castle of Louâtre is an emblematic 16th century building, located in the commune of Louâtre, in the department of Aisne. This monument, inscribed with historical monuments since 1928, bears witness to Renaissance architecture in this region of northern France. Its protected elements include the north facade of the house body, the stair tower and two chimneys, characteristic of this period.

The location of the castle, in the village of Louâtre, reflects the importance of seigneurial constructions in the Picardy countryside in the sixteenth century. At that time, castles often served as residences for noble families while playing an economic and social role in rural areas. Their presence marked the landscape and structured local life, between farming and feudal power.

The castle of Louâtre was partially protected by an order of 8 February 1928, thereby recognizing its heritage value. This inscription specifically concerns parts dated from the sixteenth century, highlighting their architectural and historical interest. Today, the monument remains a testimony of the medieval and reborn heritage of Picardia, integrated since 2016 in the Hauts-de-France region.
