Origin and history

The Château de Villars, located in the commune of La Chapelle-Villars in the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region, is a monument dating back to the 16th and 17th centuries. This castle is representative of the civil architecture of this period, marked by stylistic transformations between Renaissance and classical times. Its facades, roofs, as well as interior elements such as the dome's paintings or the decors of certain rooms, testify to its heritage importance.

Ranked a Historical Monument by order of 28 December 1978, Villars Castle enjoys special protection for several of its components. These include the wall paintings of the central corridor on the second floor, the fireplace of the room called the Archbishop, or the common room with its decor. These elements highlight the artistic richness of the place, while asking questions about its past use, potentially linked to ecclesiastical or aristocratic personalities in the region.

The location of the castle, at the approximate address of the 298 Chemin du Pras, is documented in the Merimée base, although the accuracy of this location is considered mediocre (note of 5/10). This monument is part of a territory marked by the history of the Loire, a department on which La Chapelle-Villars depends, and reflects the social and cultural dynamics of this part of the former Rhône-Alpes region, now integrated in Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes.
