Origin and history

Félix Faure High School, located in Beauvais, Hauts-de-France, is a historical monument representative of school architecture developed at the end of the 19th century. It embodies the principles of Jules Ferry's educational reform, aimed at democratizing education in France. This building illustrates the importance attached to public education under the Third Republic, with infrastructure designed to accommodate a large number of students in modern conditions for the time.

This high school is also the major work of architect Norbert-Auguste Maillart, winner of the second Grand Prix of Rome in 1881. Its architectural style reflects the educational and social ambitions of the time, combining functionality and aesthetics. The monument, fully protected (excluding extensions after 1898), bears witness to the educational and architectural heritage of the late 19th century in northern France.

Ranked Historic Monument by order of 6 March 2017, Felix Faure High School retains exceptional heritage value. Its location in Beauvais, Oise, makes it a regional symbol of public education and post-Republican school architecture. The accuracy of its location is considered satisfactory, and its current state reflects its continued use as an educational institution.
