Origin and history

The House of Peyloubère, located in Pavie in Gers, is a mansion built between the 2nd and 3rd quarter of the 20th century. It is distinguished by its architecture organised around a central courtyard, with several buildings. This monument is particularly remarkable for its history linked to artist Mario Cavaglieri, who made it his permanent residence after its acquisition in 1925. The facades, roofs and decorated rooms on the first floor of the southern wing have been protected since 1996 because of their exceptional heritage value.

The painter Mario Cavaglieri (1887-1969) marked the House of Peyloubère with sumptuous interior decorations, especially on the first floor of the south wing. His murals, executed directly on the walls, represent dynamic mythological scenes, characterized by feminine nudes and drapes in bright and swirling colours. These frescoes, both dreamlike and expressive, bear witness to the artist's talent and his attachment to this place, where he lived until his death in 1969.

The estate, now owned by a private company, retains some of its authenticity thanks to the protection of architectural elements and painted decorations. Although its access to the public is not clearly specified, the House of Peyloubère remains a major artistic and historical testimony of the Occitanie region, illustrating the link between built heritage and pictorial creation in the 20th century.
