Facade on street and corresponding roof (cad. 741): inscription by decree of 13 March 1953
Origin and history
The house on Rue Sainte-Catherine in Quimper is a 17th century architectural complex, classified as a Historic Monument. These houses are distinguished by their diversity of materials: the first, in an angle, combines a coated stone façade with bays in size and a back façade in wooden panels. The second, with a gable on the street, has a walled bellows façade, while the third has a wooden panels structure with corbellations on each floor. The last construction, also made of wooden strips, ends with a covered gable. This set offers a remarkable view of the arrows of the cathedral of Quimper.
The protection of these houses dates from a decree of 13 March 1953, specifically covering the facades on street and the corresponding roofs. Their location, at 9 rue Sainte-Catherine, is attested by the Merimée bases and GPS coordinates, although the accuracy of this location is considered a priori satisfactory (note 6/10). No information is available on their current accessibility (visits, rentals, or accommodation).
The heritage interest of these houses lies in their representativeness of the Breton civil architecture of the seventeenth century, combining traditional techniques (woodpans) and local materials (stone, slate). Their alignment along Rue Sainte-Catherine, near the cathedral, highlights their integration into the historical urban fabric of Quimper, a city marked by its medieval and religious heritage.
