Origin and history

The Moulinet Manor House is a historic building located in Bazouges, in the Mayenne department, in the Pays de la Loire region. Although its exact period of construction was not specified, its chapel was built in the 16th century, as evidenced by its foundation in 1516 by Jacques and Jean du Moulinet. This site, mentioned on ancient maps as a mansion and chapel, was a fief dependent on Bazeille-Belhomme, stressing its importance in the local feudal organization.

The Chapel of the Moulinet, founded in 1516, played a religious and social role for the surrounding community. It was listed as a Historic Monument in 1976, recognizing its heritage value. Among its holders were Michel Lemasson in 1596 and René Barthélemy in 1778, illustrating its continued use over centuries. An inscription dated 1647, Injuria melioror, engraved above a garden door, adds a symbolic dimension to the site.

The mansion is associated with historical archives held in several institutions, including the Bibliothèque nationale de France and the Archives départementales de la Mayenne. These documents, along with references in books such as the Dictionnaire historique de la Mayenne (1900-1910), confirm its anchoring in local history. The request for conservation of the chapel in 1804 also reflects efforts to preserve this heritage over time.
