Origin and history

The windmill of Mourvilles-Hautes, built in 1571, is the oldest in southwestern France. Its structure, including a truncated tower, a double perron and swivel wooden wings, bears witness to ancient techniques. Its mechanisms, partially dated 1682, are exceptional in their seniority, with an inscription attributed to the Pastre miller. This mill, classified as Historic Monument, is associated with a miller's house and a second mill of the 18th century, unprotected.

The mill and miller's house were registered as early as 1988 and then classified in 1991 following ethnological research in Lauragais. These studies have highlighted the heritage importance of this site, particularly for its unique mechanical and architectural elements. The volige roof and milling systems, still partially preserved, illustrate the artisanal know-how of the 16th and 17th centuries.

Located in Mourvilles-Hautes in Haute-Garonne, this mill is a rare example of modern rural architecture. Its state of conservation and its successive protections bear witness to the industrial and agricultural history of Occitanie. The location, although documented, remains approximate, with an accuracy estimated at 7/10 depending on available sources.
