Searches in 1869 revealing three periods.
Origin and history
It is a 1.2 hectare rocky promontory overlooking the 20-metre sea near Beuzec-Cap-Sizun, Brittany. Accessible by a roadway of 80 meters, it was protected by ditches and slope forming a cut-off of 12 meters. Its east and west flanks preserve the traces of 150 to 200 circular or rectangular dwellings, evidence of a dense occupation.
The excavations carried out by Le Men in 1869 revealed three periods of occupation: shrapnel of neolithic flint, Gaulish coins and medieval pottery. This site, typical of the barred spurs, housed a fortified village accessible by a single defence. In the 19th century, an "old fort" guard corps was established, whose remains remain visible today.
Ranked a Historical Monument in 1921, the oppidum is now owned by the Conservatoire du Littoral. Located on GR 34, it attracts visitors thanks to its stratified history and coastal panorama. A parking lot has been set up to facilitate access to this emblematic Cape Sizun site, combining Gallic, medieval and military heritage.
The discovered objects – flint, coins, tesses – illustrate a continuous occupation of the Neolithic in the Middle Ages. The site, naturally protected by its topography, served as a refuge and a place of community life. Its ranking in 1921 and its current management by the Conservatoire du Littoral make it a preserved place, both historical and tourist.
