Origin and history

The old castle of Angé, located in the Loir-et-Cher, is a historical monument whose origins date back to the 15th century, with major changes in the 18th century. This fief, partly dependent on Montresor's chestnut, retained defensive elements such as a doorway, a corner tower, a section of wall pierced with murderers, and remnants of moat. The original house was later replaced by a modern building, erasing part of its medieval appearance.

The doorway, classified as a Historical Monument in 1953, illustrates the defensive architecture of the period. It consists of a rectangular building crossing, flanked by a vaulted corridor connecting two arches in the middle of the hangar. Originally, a main drawbridge, coupled with a second arrow protecting a window, provided access. A square turret in corbellation, supported by a pillar, strengthens the northeast corner, while a polygonal tower, adorned with a basket handle door framed by Gothic accolades, marks the northwest corner. These details reflect stylistic adaptations between the Middle Ages and the modern era.

The 18th-century changes partially altered the original structure, including the doorwork, while incorporating more recent decorative elements. The courtyards of the enclosure have now disappeared, leaving only fragmentary traces of the initial defensive system. The site, though transformed, reflects the strategic importance of local fiefs in the region, linked to seigneurial networks such as Montrésor. Its current address, 23 Route du Château à Angé, corresponds to the historical location mentioned in the archives.
