Origin and history
The Parc du Secourieu, located in Cintegabelle, is a historical monument dating back to the 1st quarter of the 18th century, with major developments made in the 2nd quarter of the 19th century. This field, marked by artistic and literary influences, reflects the refined art of living of its time, thanks in particular to the interventions of personalities such as Jean de Rességuier, born in 1683, who attracted poets, writers and artists. The park still retains today the traces of the beds, alleys, basins and factories that structured its landscape organization.
In 1803, Bertrand Clauzel, Marshal of Empire, acquired the estate and began the reconstruction of the castle. Although the park bears the footprint of Clauzel, it is especially the legacy of Jean de Rességuier which dominates, with its amenities preserving a rural character to the south and landscaped spaces to the west and north. The protected elements, such as the pavilions of 1830, the Great Basin, the Noisetier fountain, or the former Russian Mountain cooler, bear witness to this dual influence, between the 18th century heritage and the 19th century transformations.
The Parc du Secourieu, inscribed in the Historic Monuments by order of 28 June 1988, is today a private property. Its inscription covers various architectural and landscape elements, including pavilions, basins, and a commemorative column. These ornaments, combined with the ancient paths of the alleys and the parties, offer an overview of the evolution of tastes and social practices related to the aristocratic and bourgeois domains in Occitanie.
