Origin and history

The Petit Château d'Eaubonne, located in Val-d The latter described it in his book L-Architecture considered in relation to art, morals and legislation (1804). The castle, in classic style inspired by Greco-Roman models, welcomed personalities such as Jean-François de Saint-Lambert, Louis-Jérôme Gohier and Merlin de Thionville. Its history reflects social transformations from aristocratic residence to institutional usage.

In 1889, the estate housed the Institution of Children Arrears of Gentilly, with extensions built in the park. Divided into apartments in 1926, it then served as a school (1945), then as a social security centre after partial demolition in 1969 – only the north facade, classified in 1967, was preserved. Acquired by the commune in 2009, it has been home to the Maison des Associations since 2014, marking its heritage rehabilitation. The original registration order (1942) was repealed in December 2023.

The northern facade, the only protected element, illustrates the neoclassical influence of Ledoux, a major architect of the Enlightenment century. The site, located at 14 boulevard du Petit-Château, remains a testament to the urban and architectural changes of Eaubonne, between aristocratic heritage and contemporary public functions.
