Porte County: registration by order of 7 December 1925
Origin and history
The Porte Comté d'Auxonne is an architectural vestige dating from the 15th century, located in the commune of Auxonne, in Côte-d'Or. This monument, classified among the Historical Monuments, illustrates the strategic importance of the city at this time, marked by defensive and urban constructions. Its listing in the Inventory of Historic Monuments by decree of 7 December 1925 underlines its heritage value and its role in local history.
Auxonne, located in the current Burgundy-Franche-Comté region, was at this time a fortified city, integrated into a network of defence and control of the channels of communication. Urban gates such as the Porte Comté were used to regulate the entrances and exits of the city, while symbolizing its power and autonomy. These constructions also reflected the economic and social dynamics of the time, where cities developed around craft, commercial and military activities.
Today, Porte County remains a key part of the heritage of Auxonne, managed by the municipality. Although information on its accessibility or current uses (visits, events) is not specified in the available sources, its status as a Historic Monument guarantees its preservation. The approximate location, indicated as being at 2 Rue du Colonel Redoutey, allows to situate this vestige in the contemporary urban fabric.
