Origin and history

La Porte d'Ayguières is a fortified gate located in the commune of Riez, in the Alpes-de-Haute-Provence department, in the Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur region. Built in the 14th century, it is part of the remains of the old fortifications of the city. Its architecture reflects medieval defence techniques typical of this period, with a robust structure designed to protect access to the city.

Classified as historical monuments by order of 23 February 1921, the porte d'Ayguières shares this status with another gate of the city, the porte Saint-Sébastien. These two buildings, located in the Faubourg Saint-Sébastien, are now owned by the municipality of Riez. Their preservation allows to testify to the urban and military history of the region, while offering an overview of the defensive organization of Provencal cities in the Middle Ages.

Available data, particularly from sources such as Wikipedia and the Merimée database, indicate that the Ayguières Gate is located near Ormeaux Square. Although its exact location is estimated to be "a priori satisfactory", it remains a major historical landmark for the city. No additional information is provided on possible characters related to its construction or history, or on specific events being carried out there.
