Porte de ville Sainte-Anne : inscription by order of 28 December 1926
Origin and history
The Porte Sainte-Anne d'Orgon is an architectural vestige located in the commune of Orgon in the Bouches-du-Rhône department. This monument, inscribed in the inventory of Historical Monuments by decree of 28 December 1926, belongs to the category of town gates, typical of medieval or renaissant fortifications. Its current location, at 15 Charles Fabbiani Street, corresponds to a historical location in the urban fabric of Orgon, although geographical accuracy is assessed as poor (level 5/10).
The town gates, like the Porte Sainte-Anne, played a strategic and symbolic role in the Provençal cities. They marked the boundaries of the city, controlled the flow of people and goods, and often served as a defence in the event of conflict. In Orgon, as in other communes of Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur, these works reflect the medieval urban organization, where collective protection and trade regulation were essential.
Today, this type of monument offers a material testimony of local and regional history, although the available sources do not specify its exact origin or its architectural evolution.
