Origin and history
The rampart of Poët-Laval is a defensive building located in the municipality of the same name, in the department of Drôme (26), in the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region. This monument, classified among the Historical Monuments, is distinguished by its southern part, delimited between points A and I of the cadastral plan. Its inclusion in the inventory of protected monuments dates from a decree of 29 December 1941, covering specific parcels (cad. 584, 586, 589, etc.).
The ramparts of this type, typical of the perched medieval villages, played a central role in protecting the inhabitants from invasions or local conflicts. In the regional context, these fortifications reflect a time when rural communities organized around strategic points, often linked to the control of trade routes or agricultural resources. Their preservation today bears witness to the historical importance of these structures in the architectural and social heritage of Drôme.
