Origin and history
The ramparts of Saint-Félix-Lauragais constitute a 14th century medieval vestige, located in the village of the same name, in Haute-Garonne. These fortifications, now partially preserved, bear witness to the defensive architecture typical of this period, marked by political and military tensions in Lauragais, a strategic region between Toulouse and the Mediterranean. Their presence reflects the importance of controlling the communication axes and fertile agricultural land of this area.
In medieval times, the ramparts played a central role in protecting the inhabitants and local resources. Fortified villages such as Saint-Félix-Lauragais served as refuges in the event of conflicts, while structuring community life around agricultural, artisanal and commercial activities. These defensive sets were often supplemented by towers, fortified doors and ditches, although the available sources do not specify the exact layout of this site.
Their inscription as a Historic Monument in 1927 underscores their heritage value, despite the lack of details on their specific use or possible subsequent changes.
