Origin and history

The castle of Barres is a gentilhommière built in the 18th century, typical of civil architecture of this time. Located in the municipality of Langogne, in the department of Lozère, this monument reflects the style of the secondary residences of the nobility or rural bourgeoisie of the modern era. Its location in Occitanie, region marked by a rich history between Massif central and Cevennes, makes it a local testimony of this period.

In the 20th century, the castle underwent a notable conversion. In 1994, French architect Jean-Michel Wilmotte was entrusted with his renovation to make it a hotel-restaurant. This project illustrates a contemporary trend towards the promotion of historical heritage for tourist or hotel purposes, while preserving the architectural identity of the place.

Today, the Barres estate combines 18th century heritage and modernity, offering an experience combining history and comfort.
