Origin and history

Château de la Causega is a building located in the commune of Fontan, in the Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur region. Although its existence is attested, the available sources do not specify its construction period or detailed history. This monument therefore remains partially mysterious for local historians.

The castles of this region, often linked to medieval or modern history, generally served as strategic points for the control of the alpine valleys. In Fontan, as in other villages in the Alpes-Maritimes, these buildings could play a defensive role, agricultural or seigneurial, depending on the times. Their presence often reflects the social and economic organization of local communities, marked by livestock farming, terraced farming and transalpine exchanges.
