Origin and history
The Château de Garraube, located in the town of Liorac-sur-Louyre in the Dordogne department, is a historic monument whose protected elements include facades, roofs, as well as gardens with their terraces and hydraulic systems. These protections, formalized by a registration order in 1992, also cover outbuildings such as the Roumégoux farm, emphasizing the heritage importance of the architectural and landscape ensemble.
The location of the castle, although documented in the Merimée base under the Insee code 24242, is considered to be of poor accuracy (level 5/10), with an approximate address at 29 Garraube. The estate, currently owned by a private company, does not reveal in the available sources its current use (visits, rental, accommodation), nor its detailed history before the twentieth century. Data are also missing to date its construction or identify its first owners.
The associated visual and cartographic sources, such as Creative Commons licensed photo credits, confirm its existence and integration into the local landscape. However, the lack of precise historical details in the accessible archives limits the understanding of its evolution, its past functions (defensive, residential, agricultural) or its role in the community life of Liorac-sur-Louyre or the Aquitaine region (now New Aquitaine).
