Jean-Baptiste Bouchardon - Architect assigned Presumed builder of the castle in 1717.

Origin and history

Juzennecourt Castle was built in 1717, replacing an older strong house. Its architecture is attributed to Jean-Baptiste Bouchardon, renowned architect of the 18th century. The central house is flanked by two pavilions covered with dome roofs, a style characteristic of French classicism. A landscaped park, structured by lawns, alleys and two canals, completes the whole, reflecting the influence of French gardens.

Ranked a Historic Monument since 14 September 2001, the castle includes in its protection the house, outbuildings and park (cadastre C 43 to 53). The accuracy of its location is considered satisfactory (note 7/10), with a confirmed address: 6 Route d'Andelot, 52330 Juzennecourt, in the department of Haute-Marne (Great East region). Its current condition and uses (visits, rental, accommodation) are not specified in the available sources.

The site is part of a territory marked by the heritage of Champagne-Ardenne, where castles and fortified houses played a central role in rural social and economic organization. The construction in 1717 coincided with a period of post-Louis XIV stability, where the local aristocracy invested in residences reflecting its prestige, while integrating innovative landscape elements for the time.
