Origin and history
Lavison Castle, located on the town of Loubens in Entre-deux-Mers (Gironde), is a building dating back to the 13th century. It was thoroughly redesigned in the 16th and 17th centuries, thus combining medieval elements such as a dungeon and a fortified enclosure, and Renaissance additions, including a house body and a small house of the 17th century. The ensemble, protected by a two towered enclosure and an entrance chestnut, illustrates the architectural evolution over centuries.
The castle has been classified as a Historical Monument since December 21, 1987, a recognition of its facades, roofs, as well as remarkable interior elements such as a staircase with screws, painted beams, and several chimneys dated from the sixteenth and seventeenth centuries. Open to the public, it is part of a winery producing Bordeaux wines (red, white, rosé, cremant) in organic farming, while remaining accessible via the departmental road D21.
