Origin and history

The Château de Bois-Joly found its origins in an 18th century mansion, sold as a national property in 1790 during the Revolution. Acquired by the Le Beau de Trésidy family, the estate was transferred to Françoise Bonnamy, natural daughter of François Le Beau, who abandoned the former mansion (renamed Vieux Bois-Joly) to build a new castle in 1852. This project, led by the owner Hallouis, is probably inspired by the plans of an unidentified architect, with notable modifications such as the absence of the initial design.

Built in tuffeau on a granite base, the castle stands out for its rich sculpted decoration: canned pilasters with composite capitals, cariatides engulfed with dacanthe leaves, and a medallion depicting Françoise Bonnamy framed with chimeras. Inside, the living rooms retain Louis XV-style painted stuccos, while the rooms preserve their original hangings and wallpapers. The romantic park, classified with the castle, houses factories (music kiosk, metal bridge), statues (Venus, Neptune), and a mausoleum dedicated to Françoise Bonnamy, highlighting its central role in the history of the estate.

Atypical in regional production, the castle combines eclecticism and neo-classical references. The old farm, far north, includes a house and preserved agricultural buildings ( stables, press) The estate, registered as a historical monument in 2007, also protects its fence walls, entrance gate, and all its statuary. Its history reflects the architectural and social transformations of the 19th century in Brittany, marked by the revolutionary legacy and the emergence of new aesthetic styles.
