Origin and history

The castle of Flers, built in the 4th quarter of the 18th century and redesigned in the 19th century, is distinguished by its imposing architecture. Its main façade, marked by a central forebody with rounded highlights, is framed with two wings in return that structure a courtyard of honour in the hemicycle. This device gives the building a majestic symmetry, typical of the aristocratic homes of the time. The park, redesigned in the 19th century, preserved its original perspectives, providing a harmonious landscape.

The entrance to the garden, lined with high brick walls, is marked by two symmetrical pavilions with four-pan roofs. These elements, combined with the grid and orchard, demonstrate a rigorous spatial organization, characteristic of seigneurial domains. The castle and its outbuildings (commons, court of honour, park, vegetable garden and orchard) were listed in the Historic Monuments by order of 14 December 2012, recognizing their heritage value.

The architect identified is Antoine-François Dubois, whose role in the design of the castle underlines the importance of local artisans in building the regional heritage. Today, the castle belongs to a private company and private owners, although its access to the public (visits, rentals, guest rooms) is not specified in the available sources. Its state of conservation and its location (noted 8/10 for its accuracy) make it a remarkable example of the residential architecture of Hauts-de-France.
