Origin and history

Sendrone Castle is an old mansion built between the 17th and 18th centuries, probably between 1760 and 1780. Located in the municipality of Saïx, in the department of Tarn in Occitanie region, it is distinguished by its rectangular plan and its classical facade. Accessible by a vast esplanade in the west, it features a stone door topped by a triangular pediment, framed by two sets of four openings. A terrace lined with 18th century ironwork extends the south facade.

Inside, the staircase serving both levels is decorated with an elegant ironwork and a decoration painted in false marble, which extends into the corridor of the first floor. The living rooms and dining room have woodwork and golden decorations, while several marble fireplaces, including those in the living room and a bedroom upstairs, testify to the refinement of the period. Outside, a Castrian pigeon house, characteristic of the region, rests on ring pillars.

The castle was partially listed as historical monuments by order of 6 November 1987. The protected elements include the façade on the courtyard of honour, the roofs, the stairwell with its ironwork and painted decoration, as well as the wrought iron grilles and the dovecote. These protections highlight the heritage value of this monument, representative of modern civil architecture in Occitanie.
