Origin and history

The Château de Violaine is a monument located in the commune of Venelles, in the department of Bouches-du-Rhône (region Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur). This site is listed in the inventory of Historic Monuments, with specific protection covering its facades, roofs, chapels, commons and park. The decree of inscription dated August 11, 1993, covering architectural and landscape elements such as fence walls, terraces, gardens, statues, fountains and a hydraulic system.

This type of Provencal bastide, often linked to a farm or seigneurial residence, reflects the architecture and lifestyle of the local elites in modern times. The bastides were generally surrounded by cultivated land and gardens, playing a central role in the social and economic organization of the countryside. Their preservation bears witness to the heritage importance attached to these architectural and landscape ensembles in Provence.
