Castle except northeast wing; chapel and dovecote: inscription by order of 3 October 1946

Origin and history

Sivry Castle is a historic monument located in the municipality of Sivry-Courtry, Seine-et-Marne. This castle, whose north-east wing is not protected, includes a chapel and a dovecote, inscribed by ministerial decree in 1946. Its exact location, although documented in the Merimée database, remains approximated according to the available data, with a location accuracy deemed a priori satisfactory by the contributors.

Monuments such as Sivry Castle often played a central role in the social and economic organization of the rural communes of Île-de-France. In modern times, these buildings served as seigneurial residences, agricultural management sites or symbols of local power. Their architecture generally reflected the defensive, residential or religious needs of the owners, while integrating utility elements such as dovecoters, markers of seigneurial privileges.
