Origin and history

The ramparts of Castellet, located in the village of the same name in the Var, constitute an architectural vestige marked by their inscription under the title of Historical Monuments. Their official protection, which took place by arrest on 6 July 1939, specifically concerns the remains of the ramparts and their two doors still visible. These elements, though partial, offer an overview of medieval or ancient defensive systems typical of provençal villages.

Castellet, like many villages perched in Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur, has developed around defensive structures designed to protect the inhabitants from invasions or local conflicts. The ramparts, often built in dry stone or in rubble, delineated urban space and symbolized communal power. Their presence reflects a social organization centred on collective security, where agriculture, crafts and commerce lived together in isolation from these fortifications.

Today, these remains recall the strategic importance of these villages in regional history.
