Origin and history
The Château de Terride was built in 1652 by the family of Grenier de Terride, Albige master glassmakers. According to their family tradition, Saint-Louis granted them the right to work the glass as a reward for their participation in the crusades. Originally conceived as a hunting relay in the heart of the forests, including that of Gresigne, the castle adopts a sober and classic style. Its use is rapidly changing to viticulture, becoming the centre of an agricultural domain that is constantly changing until the 19th century.
In the 20th century, the Château de Terride devoted itself entirely to wine production. Since 1960, its 35 hectares include the Gaillac appellation, making it the only vineyard of this AOC in the commune of Puycelsi. In 1996, Jean-Paul and Solange David became owners and diversified his activities. Today, the estate, managed by Alix David and Romain Gérard, cultivates native grape varieties such as Braucol, Duras, Far from the eye and Mauzac, perpetuating a wine tradition rooted in local history.
The architecture of the castle, redesigned between the 17th and 19th centuries, reflects its gradual adaptation to agricultural and wine-growing needs. Its forest location, initially chosen for hunting, now offers a natural setting conducive to the cultivation of the vine. The estate thus combines historical heritage and wine production, while remaining a testament to the economic and social evolution of the region.
