Origin and history

The castle of Salettes, located in the Tarn on the town of Cahuzac-sur-Vère, has its origins in the 13th century. His first written records date back to 1252, when he was quoted for his contribution to the construction of the Cathedral of St. Cécile of Albi. The nearby church, dedicated to Saint Saturnin, appeared in the texts in 1271 under the name "Saint Saturnin de Salettes". This medieval site, overlooking the Saudronne valley, was strategically positioned in front of the Mauriac castle, reflecting its local importance from the beginning.

Over the centuries, the domain of Salettes passed into the hands of influential noble families. From the 13th century it was associated with the lords of Puechmignon, a younger branch of the house of the Lautrec. The castle remained under their control until the 15th century, before being partially ceded in the 16th century by Hugues III of Toulouse-Lautrec to Pierre d-Hautpoul, adviser to the Parliament of Toulouse. The latter, from a family driven from Mazamet by Simon de Montfort and settled in Rennes-Les-Bains, founded the branch of Hautpoul-Salettes, marking a turning point in the history of the estate.

The castle of Salettes experienced a notable period in the 18th century with the birth in its walls, in 1754, of the future general of Empire Jean Joseph Ange d'Hautpoul. After centuries of possession by the Hautpoul family, the estate was sold in 1885, changing hands several times later. Falling in ruins, it was bought in 1994 by Roger Paul Le Net, who began his restoration to make it a hotel-restaurant. The works, started in 1999, aimed to reconcile the original medieval structure with a contemporary design, opening a new page in its history.
