Origin and history
The Château des Grimardies, located in Augerolles in Puy-de-Dôme, is a U-plan building built mainly in the seventeenth century. It consists of a long central building, flanked at the beginning of the eighteenth century by two wings in return that delimit an inner courtyard closed by a gate. This monument illustrates the architectural evolution between classicism and baroque additions, typical of the noble residences of this period in Auvergne.
The interiors of the castle preserve remarkable decorations, including woodwork, fireplaces, painted door tops and period ironwork. The stairwell, adorned with a wrought iron ramp and paintings, as well as the living rooms (large living room, dining room with woodwork and paintings) and a small cabinet, testify to the refinement of the interior arrangements of the 17th and 18th centuries.
Ranked Historic Monument by decree of 7 November 2000, the castle is fully protected, including its exteriors (fontaine, garden, terrace, columns, gates and their ironwork) and its decorated interiors. The property, shared between a private owner and the municipality, reflects a dual heritage and local vocation, although the modalities of opening up to the public (visits, rental, guest rooms) are not specified in the available sources.
