Origin and history

Château Puy Castéra is a wine estate located in Cissac-Médoc, Gironde, in the heart of the Médoc appellation. Its name originates in two terms: "Puy", meaning terre in ancient French, and "Castera" (from the Latin Castrum), evoking a camp or a fortress. This area is emblematic of the Bordeaux wine tradition, with a production centered on red wines respecting the Encépagement typical of the Médoc: Cabernet-Sauvignon, Merlot, Cabernet-Franc, Malbec and Petit-Verdot.

The castle belongs to the heirs of Henri Marès, famous for having discovered the fungicide effect of sulfur against the odium, a major advance for viticulture. In 2018, the estate was bought by the Romain Roux vineyards of Gornac, marking a new stage in its history. Today, he produces three wines, including Château Puy Castera and Château Holden, while perpetuating a know-how rooted in the Medocan terroir.

The vineyard extends over 28 hectares and illustrates the alliance between tradition and modernity. Ranked as a bourgeois cru, Château Puy Castera embodies the excellence of the wines of the Médoc, while at the same time testifying to the evolution of winemaking techniques since the 19th century. Its history also reflects the challenges faced by wine growers, such as the fight against vine diseases, where Henri Marès' work has played a decisive role.
