Origin and history
The press of Coulanges-la-Vinue is a building located in the municipality of the same name, in the department of Yonne, Burgundy-Franche-Comté. Built in the 3rd quarter of the 18th century, this felling press is distinguished by its lever mechanism, whose feet are anchored in a well. It is one of the largest machines of this type preserved in Burgundy, testifying to the importance of viticulture in the region at that time.
The press bearing the date of 1757, engraved on its structure. It has been listed as historic monuments since April 11, 2002, recognizing its heritage value. The building, located at 57 rue André-Vildieu, is also protected. This wine press illustrates traditional wine production techniques and their integration into the Burgundian rural architectural landscape.
This monument is now owned by the commune of Coulanges-la-Viuse. Although information on its accessibility to the public is limited, its conservation allows us to study methods of pressing grapes in the 18th century. It is part of a wider set of historical monuments of Yonne, reflecting the rich wine and crafts heritage of the region.
